Up to the 18th Century, navigation at sea was never precise and rarely safe – this is, until an unknown, eccentric, self-taught clock maker from England called John Harrison, turned his hand to the problem.
Amongst many innovations he designed a unique Grasshopper Escapement to create one of the most remarkably robust and precise mechanical timepieces ever made. Solving the problem of longitude at sea had a huge and lasting impact, allowing trade to flourish.
This collection is inspired by this often overlooked and rather unorthodox, eccentric genius.
